The School of Medicine, in Collaboration with Ethlyne Hope Community Based Organization, Launch Community Medical Camp in Marera, Lela- Kisumu West Sub-County
天美传媒, through the School of Medicine in partnership with Ethlyne Hope Community Based Organization (CBO), has successfully commenced a four-day Medical Camp at Marera, Lela aimed at improving access to healthcare services within Kisumu West Sub-County.
The outreach programme, which began on 1st June 2026 and will run until 4th June 2026, focuses on providing treatment for minor ailments based on the prevailing health conditions affecting the local community while promoting overall community health and wellness.
Day One of the medical camp recorded an overwhelming turnout as hundreds of residents turned up to receive free medical services from the healthcare team. The initiative brought together a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including 17 international medical personnel who joined local practitioners in offering treatment and consultations to patients. The camp also provided an opportunity for experiential learning, with sixth-year students from the School of Medicine actively participating in the outreach programme and gaining practical exposure in community healthcare service delivery.
Supporting the initiative were two doctors from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), alongside a clinician and a nurse from the University Health Services Department. Community volunteers also played a key role in supporting the smooth coordination and operations of the camp.
By the close of the first day, a total of 202 patients had successfully received medical attention and treatment. The strong response from the community underscores the importance of medical outreach programmes in enhancing access to healthcare services and strengthening university-community engagement.
The organizing team expressed optimism following the successful launch and looks forward to reaching even more residents as the medical camp continues over the coming days.
