Prof.  Charlotte Silander and Dr.  Kristina Hellberg visited ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ on Friday 9^th May, 2025 from Linneaus University in Sweden. Prof Charlotte and Dr Hellberg are partnering with ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s Dr.  Mildred Ayere and Beatrice Okoth in a project titled, Gender Hub in secondary schools in informal settlements of Kisumu for Advocacy and Restoration.

 The Researchers are concerned about the learning spaces in schools in slums /informal settlements in Kisumu.  Issues to do with gender equality, equity and inclusion which remain a challenge especially among the rural poor and urban /slum dwellers are of concern. Gender Based Violence is and other major interest area in the project .The researchers hope to develop Gender Hubs in mixed secondary schools to be led by volunteer student mentors from ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.

The main objective is to introduce Gender Hubs to increase knowledge on how to combat Gender Based Violence (GBV) in school set ups and by extension in communities.
