Aligning the University Curriculum to Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET)
A two-day meeting is underway in 天美传媒 titled 鈥滳apacity Building Workshop on Aligning the University Curriculum to Competency-Based Education and Training鈥 (CBET). It will run from 13th to 14th May 2025 at the Amphitheatre, South Wing at Prof. George Magoha Complex. The Workshop was officially opened by Prof. Stephen Ogendo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Finance and Development, who was acting on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Julius O. Nyabundi.
The Chief Guest at the workshop is Mr. Patrick Andika, Assistant Director, Consultancy and Partnerships at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development. During the 1st Session, Mr. Andika gave a presentation on 鈥淭he (CBET) Framework in the University System鈥. Mr. Andika emphasized the concept of CBET being learner-centered as opposed to traditional teaching, where the teacher/lecturer is the center of focus. He opined that in CBET, rather than bombarding students with lofty content in the form of lectures, the teaching staff will have to focus on imparting key industry-needed skills so that learners enjoy high levels of employability upon graduation.
In the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 speech, read by Prof. Ogendo, he had earlier called upon the teaching fraternity to be cognizant of the changing landscape in higher education, both globally and nationally. He stated that this requires us to re-think what to teach, how to teach and how to assess learning.
